Features and document support
BoldDocServer provides browser-based document tools while SharePoint stores your files and controls access.
Document formats
Section titled “Document formats”| Format | Browser experience |
|---|---|
| DOCX | View and edit Word documents with Syncfusion DOCX Editor. |
| XLSX | View and edit workbooks with Syncfusion Spreadsheet Editor. |
| View, annotate, and fill PDFs with Syncfusion PDF Viewer. |
The editing and review commands differ by document format. Open a file from the SharePoint library to use its editor or viewer.
Collaborative editing
Section titled “Collaborative editing”When collaboration is enabled, users with edit permission can work on the same DOCX, XLSX, or PDF document together. Open the same file in separate browser sessions to see changes from other users.
The Quick Start enables collaboration. Administrators configure it with ENABLE_COLLABORATIVE_EDITING and provide a Redis connection using REDIS_CACHE_CONNECTION_STRING. See the Configuration reference for these settings.
Auto-save and version history
Section titled “Auto-save and version history”Auto-save sends your edits back to SharePoint at the configured interval. For example, AUTO_SAVE_INTERVAL_MS: "10000" sets an interval of 10 seconds. Wait for a save to complete before closing the editor.
VERSION_COMMIT_INTERVAL_MS controls the version-commit interval. SharePoint’s library settings control Version History, so each auto-save does not necessarily create a new version.
To check saved content, close the document and reopen it from its SharePoint library. To review stored versions, open the document’s Version History in SharePoint.
Word spell check
Section titled “Word spell check”Word spell check identifies spelling errors and suggests corrections. It uses dictionary files from the configured dictionary folder.
Administrators copy the dictionary package to the deployment’s data/ folder and set the spell-check settings. The Quick Start includes these folder mappings and settings.
Read-only access
Section titled “Read-only access”Users with view-only access can read the document. Editing requires edit permission in SharePoint. See Security and Permissions for access guidance.
Component documentation
Section titled “Component documentation”For details about the underlying editors and viewers, see:
